How does social media affect learning?

Scientists from the University of Queensland, with the assistance of psychologists, conducted a study that examined human behavior and stress levels when using social networks. Experiments have shown that giving up Facebook for at least five days reduced levels of cortisol, the so-called stress hormone. Later, study participants stated that a short break in the use of social networks causes symptoms similar to withdrawal - irritability, inability to concentrate, etc. But again, the question arises - shouldn't students learn self-organization and time management?

Firstly, thanks to social media, you can get information first-hand. Without much effort, it is possible to conduct opinion polls about something in any country, rather than looking for ready-made results, which are often outdated. An invaluable advantage is the ability to receive data (photos, opinions, numbers) directly from the place where the research is localized.

Secondly, professional communities can often provide more than all the available textbooks. We live in the era of information technology - and most knowledge becomes outdated before it has time to cool off from the printing press.

Thirdly, you can create individual and collective content. This encourages community members to collaborate effectively; for example, a closed group on a social network may include graduates who are already working in their specialty. Their comments from the point of view of a specialist or even an employer can help students find an answer to their question or even get a job offer.

Fourthly, students can share thematic materials, thereby teaching each other and the teacher. This results in the phenomenon of “learning in reverse.”

Re : How does social media affect learning?

I can respond to your post by saying that in some cases it is indeed very difficult for a student to cope with the temptation to spend more time on their social networks. This may even have some impact on your academic success, so browse this site. I think that sometimes it is much easier for a student to use third-party help, such as an online writing service.
